Women to Receive ₹1,500 Monthly: Apply by August 31 for Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana

The Maharashtra government has launched an ambitious welfare scheme called the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, aimed at providing financial assistance to underprivileged women across the state. Under this program, eligible women will receive a monthly stipend of ₹1,500, directly transferred to their bank accounts. The scheme, which was announced in the state budget by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, is set to benefit over one crore women in Maharashtra.

Initially launched on July 1, 2024, the scheme has garnered immense interest, with over 44 lakh online applications received within just two weeks of its announcement. Recognizing the overwhelming response and to ensure wider participation, the government has extended the application deadline to August 31, 2024. This extension provides a crucial opportunity for eligible women who have not yet applied to take advantage of this financial support program.

This welfare program aims to support a wide range of women, including married, unmarried, divorced, widowed, and destitute individuals. Eligibility Criteria

• Be a permanent resident of Maharashtra
• Age between 21 and 65 years
• Annual family income not exceeding ₹2.5 lakh
• Possess a valid bank account in their name
• Belong to one of the following categories: married, unmarried, abandoned, divorced, or destitute

It’s important to note that the government has relaxed some initial conditions to make the scheme more inclusive. For instance, the upper age limit has been increased from 60 to 65 years, and the restriction on land ownership (previously capped at 5 acres) has been removed.

Application Process

Online Application:

• Create an account if you don’t have one already.
• Log in and follow the steps to fill out the online application form.

Offline Application:

• Obtain the application form from local government offices or support centers
• Fill out the form with correct details
• Attach necessary documents
• Submit the completed application to the nearest Women and Child Development Department office

Implementation and Benefit Distribution

The Maharashtra government has allocated an annual budget of ₹46,000 crore for this welfare program, demonstrating its commitment to women’s empowerment and poverty alleviation. The implementation of the scheme will be overseen by the Women and Child Development Department.

Once applications are approved, eligible beneficiaries will start receiving the monthly stipend of ₹1,500 directly into their bank accounts. The first installment, covering July and August 2024, will be a lump sum payment of ₹3,000. Subsequent payments will be made on a monthly basis.
